Are you a fan of the Who? If you are, you surely remember Pete Townshend’s red Gibson SG.
Leland.com’s Spring 2014 Catalog Auction is featuring this guitar, as well other pieces of the Who memorabilia. Two Premier timbale drums with the original healds, a drum stool and a Paiste crash cymbal all used by drummer Keith Moon during the recording of Who Are You, the band’s 1978 LP.
The Gibson was originally given to David Spero, a disc jockey in Cleveland, who later became the personal manager of Townshend’s friend Joe Walsh. Townshend windmilled the guitar on stage during a concert in Cleveland during the seventies. Included is the original case, as well as a letter of authenticity from Spero.
A variety of sports-related items are also up for bid – Jim Brown’s 1964 NFL championship ring, a 1954-55 “Harry Agganis” uniform, and a custom Volkswagen Beetle “baseball car.”
Bidding has reached over $4,000 so far, and ends July 25.
