Each year, Cartier’s watchmaking department comes up with new ideas, designs and technical advancements to add to its collection of fine watches. This year it will introduce the Rotonde de Cartier Grande Complication Skeleton, the most complicated watch ever produced by the company.
Each complication, including a minute repeater, perpetual calendar, and flying tourbillon, is laid out and visible to the wearer “in a highly skeletonized movement.” Although the watch is complex, its winding is automatic, a rare feature for a watch if this type. It has at least 578 parts in total.
While Cartier is generally thought of as a jewelry brand, it has been making watches for over 100 years. The watchmaking team wants to stick to its mechanical watchmaking history, but continues to advance and keep people in anticipation for what’s to come.
