At Chicago Gold Gallery, we don’t only buy gold in Chicago – we also accept collectibles! Old toys are something we keep an eye out for, and the right vintage toys can be worth big bucks. Perhaps you just cleaned out those old boxes up in the attic or went through an old storage unit, and you’re left wondering, “What are my toys worth?”
Vintage Barbies
With so many different variations of Barbies, some may be worth no more than a few cents. However, if you’re lucky enough to have a vintage Barbie lying around, it could be worth tens of thousands of dollars. The 1959 vintage blonde Barbie in a black and white swimsuit is one example of a diamond in the rough – it could be worth up to $20,000.
Some rare Barbies that could also be worth big bucks include the City Smart Barbie and the Pink Splendor Barbie.
Great Garloo
Back in 1961, a small, battery-controlled monster took the toy world by storm. The Great Garloo is about two feet in height, sold for just $17 when it first came out, but is worth upwards of $500 depending on condition.
If you’re lucky enough to own or find this rare, vintage toy, bring it to Chicago Gold Gallery for a free appraisal.
Marx Vintage & Antique Toys
The Marx toy collection is more than the Great Garloo. Back in the 1950s, the Marx toy company was considered the Toy King–as named by Time magazine.
To this day, Marx toys are well-known by collectors across the world. From their wind-up tin toys, toy cars, dolls, doll houses to their yo-yo’s, robots, train sets, and toy guns, Marx toys were on every shelf and, seemingly, in every home. With such a wide variety of collectibles, the value will vary.
Ideal Jet Fighter
The vintage 1950s electronic Ideal Fighter Jet cockpit is a large toy flight simulator. With a bright yellow and red design, the aesthetics alone make this toy a collector’s dream.
Its gauges, switches, and targeting screen with flip-up cannons made this a must-have for all kids in the 50s. A well-kept piece with all parts still working can fetch a pretty penny.
Along with the cockpit, most Ideal Fighter Jet planes and darts can also be extremely valuable.
G.I. Joe Toys
G.I. Joe action figures can have a price tag of upwards of a thousand dollars if they’re old and rare. Some of the rare Joes include Tomahawk, Baroness, Scarlett, Snake Eyes, G.I. Joe Cobra Commander, and U.S.S. Flagg.
Remco Toys & Collectibles
Perhaps best known for their action figures and Universal Monster figures, the Remco toy company first started by manufacturing the popular Voice-Controlled Kennedy Airport, Science Kits, and Mighty Matilda Atomic Aircraft Carrier.
By acquiring popular culture licensing to well-known acts such as The Beatles, Monkees, Munsters, Lost in Space, and Batman, there are plenty of Remco collectibles out on the market.
If you come across a vintage Remco figure, bring it by today so we can take a look at what you have on your hands!
