Garrard of London, the royal jeweler, reduced the size to 105.6 carats when he recut the stone to enhance its fire and brilliance into a shallow oval brilliant, which now resides front and center in the British Crown Jewels.
According to legend, the Koh-i-Noor originated in India during the 11th or 12th century, but was later stolen by the British during the Anglo Sikh \wars in the early 1800s. Its true history is obscure, having gone through centuries of wars and bloodshed, making it an even more interesting piece. For more than 100 years now, the Koh-i-Noor has remained with the British royal family.
