Did you know that in addition to painting and sculpting, Pablo Picasso also made jewelry? Aside from his editioned jewelry, he created personal pieces and gave them to members of his family, which will be auctioned off in Boston later this month.
Around 1950, the artist cast the jewelry with the help of his dentist – some silver, some gold. Included in the collection were portraits of his son and daughter, a satyr and a sun. The portrait of his son, Claude, along with the sun and satyr pendants, were given in the late 1960s to Claude’s then-fiancee, Carole Mallory, who has been holding onto them ever since.
Mallory, a model and actress, decided to sell these three pieces through Skinner Auctioneers March 18, and will be giving a lecture the evening before. They have an estimated value of $15,000 to $20,000.
How much do you think they’ll be sold for? Stay tuned for an update!
