Colored diamonds are rare to come by, and blue diamonds form less than 2% of world diamond production.
The largest flawless Fancy Vivid blue diamond in the world, known as “The Blue” will be up for auction at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels sale next month in Geneva, Switzerland. The gem, an astounding 13.22 carats, is predicted to sell for between $21 million and $25 million.
Along with this piece, Christie will auction “The Rajah” diamond, an exotic white diamond believed to have originated in India and sold to Tiffany & Co. sometime in the 19th century. It was auctioned by Christie’s in 1997 and is back this year.
Christie’s expects to fetch around $100 million at the auction May 14th.
