Three colored gems stole the show at Sotheby’s spring Magnificent Jewels auction Tuesday.
An emerald-cut Kashmir sapphire set a record for price per carat paid for a sapphire. The gem weighs in at 28.18 carats, and was sold for just under $5.1 million. This gem, however, did not fetch the highest price at the auction. A fancy intense orangy pink diamond ring sold for $6.1 million.
“El Dorado,” a 36.53-carat Colombian emerald mounted on a ring was sold for $2.1 million.
The auction featured a total of 445 pieces and made over $44.3 million.
