A 1962 Rickenbacker 425 owned by the Beatles’ George Harrison will be auctioned off May 17 at the Hard Rock Cafe in Manhattan, and is estimated to sell for up to $600,000.
Harrison bought the guitar at Fenton’s Music store while visiting his sister in Mount Vernon, Illinois. The guitar was red when he purchased it, but he had it refinished to black to match John Lennon’s Rickenbacker.
Also included in the auction is a signed “Beatles ’65” album with all four members’ autographs, which could bring up to $300,000. Signed albums dating after 1964 are very rare to come by.
Jimi Hendrix’s Sears Silverstone electric guitar, estimated to sell for up to $100,000, will also be up for auction.
