A riviere necklace with 51 “Triple X-cut” diamonds is expected to sell for between $1.4 million and $1.8 million when it hits the auction block at Bonham’s New York Fine Jewelry sale in late June.
Triple X, an informal designation, means a diamond has been given excellent grades for cut, symmetry and polish. Every diamond in this necklace is accompanied by a GIA report that has received such grades, which is extremely rare. The necklace weighs more than 70 carats, with the brilliant-cut diamonds joined together with a heart-shaped diamond clasp, which alone weighs 2.04 carats.
While this necklace is the top lot, colored diamonds and gems are popular this year. Two other top lots at this sale include a 3.56-carat fancy intense pink diamond on a ring mounted in 18k white and yellow gold, and a 25-carat sapphire and diamond ring by famous French jewelry house M. Gerard. They are estimated to sell for $600,000 – $800,000 and $400,000 – $500,000, respectively.
