A 12.30-carat blue diamond may soon break a record when it is auctioned by Sotheby’s.
Nicknamed the “Blue Moon,” the gem will be for sale in Geneva November 11, where it is estimated to be worth between $35 million and $55 million.
The Blue Moon was discovered in South Africa last year. Declared “internally flawless” by the Gemological Institute of America, it is the largest cushion-shaped stone categorized as a fancy vivid blue to appear at auction.
The current record sale for a blue diamond was in November of last year, when a 9.75-carat jewel sold for $32.6 million in New York.
Will the Blue Moon live up to its name? We’ll have to wait and see!
