Early next month, an auction for hundreds of rare acoustic guitars will be held in New York by Geurnsey’s.
The collection of 265 pieces, were offered from Hank Risan, a collector in California, and include a variety of famous makers such as Gibson, Stromberg and D’Angelico. They are thought as some of the best and rarest vintage guitars to ever come to auction, still in impressive condition.
These instruments also range in age, the oldest from 1840 and the newest from 2000. The 2000 piece is a re-creation of the OM-45 Deluxe from 1930 – known as the “holy grail of guitars” by Arlan Ettinger, President of Guernsey’s. Also in the collection are a Manuel Ramirez Flamenco from 1900, and a medley of guitars previously owned by famous musicians: a 1967 Gibson SJM Country Western Mick Jagger used on his “Primitive Cool” album in 1987, a 1959 Gibson J-200 once owned by Eric Clapton, and others. Several mandolins will also be put up for sale.
Pre-sale estimates are still being discussed.
