Starting tomorrow, the Grateful Dead will be performing three shows over the Fourth of July weekend at Soldier Field here in Chicago, in honor of the band’s 50th anniversary. While the audience will get to enjoy some of their biggest hits, the highlight of the weekend will be the auctioning of a signed guitar at the Sunday show.
The auction is being held by HeadCount, a nonprofit organization, and D’angelico Guitars based in New York. The D’Angelico guitar is signed by members Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzman, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir.
The band performed shows in California last weekend, where bids for the guitar got up to $42,000. It is expected to reach at least $100,000 here this weekend. Proceeds will go to 17 different non-profits selected by the band.
If you are interested or will be at the Grateful Dead concert, the auction will take place outside section 117 at Soldier Field. The auction will close at 9:30 pm Sunday.
