William “The Refrigerator” Perry’s Super Bowl XX ring was sold at auction by Heritage Auctions last month in Chicago as part of the National Sports Collectors Convention.
Perry was a defensive lineman for the Chicago Bears from 1985, when they won the Super Bowl, until 1993.
The 10-karat gold ring with genuine diamonds is the largest Super Bowl ring ever to be made, believed to be somewhere between size 23 and 25 (ring size for the average adult male is between 10 and 12). The size cannot be confirmed as no tool to measure up to that size exists, however the opening is said to be around the size of a half-dollar coin.
Perry sold the ring, along with an assurance of authenticity, to a collector in 2000. That collector then sold it at auction for $27,000. This time around, it sold for $203,150!
