The United States Mint has plans to release special coins and sets in honor of the 50th anniversary of the John F. Kennedy half dollar. These coins have a certain appeal to collectors and the public alike, as Kennedy is seen as one of the most admired modern American presidents.
The original Kennedy half dollar coin was 90% silver. They were authorized by Congress just over a month after the president’s assassination, struck in January of 1964 and released in March of the same year.
Mint officials have said that a number of different half dollar anniversary products will be issued this year, such as coins with different finishes and mintmarks, and coins with limited and unlimited mintage. These JFK coins are expected to be one of the hottest U.S. Mint products this year.
